Boise agencies investigate North Eugene Street playground fire ruled as arson

BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — According to a recent news release, Boise Fire responded to a large playground fire on Feb. 6, 2024, at 12:46 a.m. on the 5000 block of N. Eugene St. Crews extinguished the fire, which resulted in a total loss of playground equipment.
Evidence following an initial investigation by a Boise City Fire Investigator indicates the fire was set intentionally.
Boise Police Officers were called to the scene around 1:30 a.m. to begin an arson investigation. Detectives continue canvassing the area for additional evidence and video.
"This is a very disappointing situation, and we are working closely with Boise Police, Boise Fire, and the city's Risk and Safety team on next steps," said Boise Parks and Recreation Director Doug Holloway. "The playground is insured, but we anticipate the clean-up and costs to replace the equipment will be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars."
